Our New Home
When we first set up the Cabinet Rooms back in 2014, it was always our plan to find a base from which to share our love of food and drink with you. But, as anyone from the area knows, the city is rather difficult to find premises, with the number of empty premises below the national average. We’ve persevered, however, and after many months of searching, we’ve finally found a place to lay our hats!
The Art Café on Jewry Street has been an independent cultural hub since 2012, hosting local clubs and events, as well as featuring art exhibitions in its basement gallery. We are really excited to have the opportunity to take an existing business and transform it into a new home for Cabinet Rooms. We have exciting plans to maximise the potential of the space, which we’ll start working on in time for spring.
Winchester Cocktail Week
For now though, the Café will be the temporary home of the Winchester Cocktail Week Hub, which will be at the centre of the city’s second annual festival of mixed drinks. Ticket holders will need to visit the Hub to pick up their wristbands and souvenir guidebooks.
We’re working with the existing café team to refresh the coffee and food menu but are still very much open for business for a leisurely breakfast, lunch or cup of coffee. We’d love to see you!
Once Cocktail Week is over we’ll be sinking our teeth into bringing the Cabinet Rooms to life. We don’t want to give away too much right now but if you’ve been following our blog or been to one of our events you should have quite a good idea of what to expect from us. We’ll be taking our role as Creative Ambassadors for Winchester into consideration as we plan how to use the space in the months to come. Our aim is to continue to champion the alternative and often hidden side of the city’s food and drink scene. Sign up to our newsletter and be among the first to know what we have in store later this year!
