FOR FOOD AND DRINK LOVERS IN AND AROUND WINCHESTER

There is nothing quite like Christmas in Winchester! If you are planning on visiting this historic city for its unique, independent boutiques, the Cathedral’s Christmas Market, or the pantomime opposite us at the theatre we’d love to welcome you to our little café-bar for refreshments.

We are, however, a small venue with limited number of seats and it isn’t always possible to accommodate everybody at our busier times. Naturally, we can’t bear turning people away so here are a few tips to help you plan your visit with us.

Bookings

You can now make table reservations for up to 8 people online. It is likely that you will be seated downstairs in either our Map Room or our Foreign Office but if there is space you may be able to relocate to our main café area, should you wish.

Tables can be reserved for 1.5 hour slots so please be aware that if we are busy we may need to ask for your table back at the end of your reservation. When you book online you’ll need to enter credit card details. We won’t charge you to book but if you don’t show up for your booking without cancelling in advance then we’ll take a £10 “no-show” fee. Full terms and conditions are available when you book.

If you’d like to book a 1.5 hour slot for more than 8 people, we can offer you exclusive use of our Foreign Office. We’d need to take a deposit of £25 which is redeemed against your bill on the night. There’s a minimum spend of £125 when you take the whole space but all purchases on the day contribute to it. Deposits are refundable up to one month prior to your gathering.

You can also reserve the use of our Foreign Office for up to 25 people for a whole evening. There’s a minimum spend of £400 and a deposit of £80 to confirm the booking.

Please download and return our 2019 Christmas Booking Form to reserve a space for your private party.

Menus

Our Christmas menu is full of tasty, wintry treats! If you’ve reserved a table or the Foreign Office for a gathering of your friends, we would recommend sending us a pre-order so that you can enjoy drinks as soon as you arrive. Please bear in mind that without a pre-order, the first round of drinks for a large group might take a bit longer to arrive.

Our staff have been trained on the best way to configure our tables and seat guests to ensure that everyone can relax comfortably and enjoy their time with us. We would kindly ask guests to follow the guidance of our team and not try to squeeze in by moving furniture or sitting on top of each other!

Visiting the Theatre

We know that many guests like to pop in for a drink and a quick snack before visiting the theatre. We would recommend allowing yourself at least 45 minutes before the start of the show to give you plenty of time — particularly when we are busy — to order and enjoy your drink before you have to cross the road to the theatre.

Children

If you are visiting with a pushchair, please pop your head in and check with a member of staff whether there is space to store it while you visit. Alternatively, please call ahead on 01962 866480 and we’ll be able to advise you how much space is available. As we are a very small venue, we may ask you to collapse any large buggies or prams to ensure that staff and other customers may move around the café safely. While we do not have a dedicated children’s menu, we can offer babyccinos, fruit juices and other soft drinks.
