Many moons ago, having recently finished my degree, I found myself sat in a cold hall in Farnham battling my way through the entrance examination to the Foreign Office’s fast-track programme for graduates. I wondered whether or not I would be cut out for the challenges of international diplomacy. As it turned out, I didn’t quite make the grade so my concerns were short lived…
What an honour, therefore, all these years later to be asked to be Creative Ambassadors for Winchester. We may not have diplomatic immunity or get to be called ‘Your Excellency’, but we do get to do our little bit to help spread the word that Winchester is (surely!) the gastronomic capital of the south.
The Creative Winchester #CreativeWinch campaign is being run by Winchester City Council to celebrate the “alternative – even hidden – side of Winchester’s rich cultural scene”. We shall be championing food and drink while other Ambassadors have been enlisted to promote different aspects of the city’s vibrant cultural offering. As part of the project, we shall be preparing tours, writing posts and generally waxing lyrical on our favourite subject: food and drink.
When we started tweeting about our gastronomic experiences back in 2014 we had no idea we were setting out on such an exciting journey of discovery. We felt we had so much to share that we started our blog in February 2015 and have been very grateful for the warm reception our writing has received ever since. As time has gone by, however, so has our ability to produce regular posts and if you’re a subscriber you may have noticed quiet patches – notably at the start of the year when we were busy launching Winchester Cocktail Week. We have had great fun delivering our programme over the last 12 months, collaborating with inspirational local businesses and meeting all our fellow food and drink lovers who have so kindly joined us along the way. Running events is hugely time consuming… but we love it!
In the months to come, we are keen to create even more opportunities for discerning imbibers like you to socialise in and around Winchester. You’ll be able to find details of all our events here on our new website and we’ll also post photos of them afterwards in our gallery so you can reminisce at leisure! And in between all of that, we shall still be sharing our occasional musings with you in our blog, which we’ve now merged into our main site.
Thank you for your support thus far and we hope you’ll stay with us as we continue our discovery of Winchester’s genuinely creative food and drink scene, using the hashtag #creativewinch! If you haven’t done so already, please sign up to our newsletter and we’ll keep you posted on all the exciting things to come!go back
